The work
The garden goat, a kitsch object found at a flea market, undergoes a radical metamorphosis through the meticulous application of mirror fragments covering its entire surface. This reflective fragmentation turns the harmless figurine into an unsettling, glittering presence, each facet returning to viewers their own fragmented image. The work converses with the readymade tradition, performing a plastic transfiguration that unseats the object from its everyday life.
The profusion of metallic glitter on the head and the ochre-tinted synthetic elements on the collar and hooves heighten this multiplication of materials and textures. The glittering, reflective effect creates a tension between the supposed vulgarity of the original object and the new strangeness produced by this augmented materiality. Visitors become accomplices in their own fragmentation, endlessly reflected on the animal's surface.
This poetics of material transformation questions the value and meaning we attach to objects. By investing a common zoomorphic figure with this reflective accumulation, the artist performs a détournement that reveals the hidden plastic potential of ordinary forms.
