Système Gong at home
Seven worlds of the gongs, to listen to and watch at home.
In London, three gongs driven by transducers play without end, led by a program that brings to life frequencies drawn from each gong's measured resonances. This page lets you hear a simulation of it: the same worlds, played by the same conductor, on gongs rebuilt from their resonances, with the ring of the metal and the acoustics of a church.
The visual is that of the projection: the waves of the three gongs, in the eight colours of the Minitel. It follows the sound in real time.
Seven thirty-minute worlds follow one another without end, as in the installation. Each visit begins in a world and at a moment chosen at random.
On headphones or good speakers: the bass goes down to 68 Hz. A slow listen: nothing happens fast. About 30 MB per world, loaded as you listen.
Sound: SuperCollider — modal model of the measured resonances, non-linearity, plate reverb (Dattorro), church (JPverb). Visual: WebGL, after the Gilberte 3000 visuals.
Gong structure: Christian de Chavagnac
